David trained and worked as a forester and tree surgeon for many years before injury forced him into a desk job. Forestry was not all cutting down of trees; it was also planting and caring for them. Indeed, David has planted tens of thousands of trees in most of the counties across South Eastern England (as well as a couple whilst on holiday in Africa.....you just can't stop him planting!).

Though he is no longer able to work in the woods, he remains a committed tree-hugger and spends much of his spare time wandering the woods and talking to the trees. He is never happier than when working with wood (or tinkering with his VW camper van.....although he wonders why it only seems to go wrong when it's raining!).
